Description

KaIROS project focuses on earthquake disasters. The main purpose has been to provide beyond-state-of-the-art approaches oriented to reduce seismic risk worldwide. In this respect, the key to reducing seismic risk is decreasing the vulnerability of existing structures and providing new insights to improve the design of new ones. This can be achieved by proposing new strategies to augment the predictability of risk assessment methodologies.

The main objectives of the project have been aimed at contributing to inventory, assessment, strengthening and regulations. The work plan, which has been organized into Work Packages, WP, was designed according to the objectives of the project. WP1 was devoted to inventory, WP2 and WP6 to assessment, WP3 to strengthening, WP4 to regulations; an additional WP5 has been intended to other issues addressed in the proposal (Gender dimension, weakening and directionallity effects). Finally, WP7 has been dedicated to the management of the project.
